Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyon is a 12 to 25 million years old canyon, that carries the memories of milestones. For ancient nomads, it was a trench against the enemy and for the biggest red wolves, it was a hunting trap. The Charyn Canyon is a natural monument made of sedimentary rocks. The height of the Canyon’s steep mountains reaches 150-300 m. It is predicted that it was formed about 25 million years ago in the Tertiary period when a large lake was on this site. The slopes are formed both as a result of rock degradation processes and as a result of rock deposition. 

Whether you choose to track from the top to look down to enormous abysses or you prefer to sink into the canyon and walk through gigantic reddish stones, both ways, it will definitely sublimate you.

A hundred kilometers of a steppe, herds of wild horses, cattle, a flock of birds of prey, and 90 year old bazaar, Death Valley, are what expecting us on the way to the Canyon. 

Itinerary

• 08:00-11:00 – Trip to the Charyn Canyon driving through spectacular Kazakh terrains, with one sanitary stop in Shelek city 
• 11:00­­-13:30 – Tracking in the Charyn Canyon 
• 13:30-14:10 – Lunch on the bench with a great view of the Canyon  
• 14:10-15:10 – Trip back to Bayseit village
• 15:10-15:40 – Roaming in the Bazaar
• 15: 40-17:40 – Travel back to Almaty and relax after a long day
